Hurricane Harvey was an extremely destructive Atlantic hurricane, becoming the first major hurricane to make landfall in the United States since Wilma in 2005. In a four-day period, many areas received more than 40 inches of rainfall, causing destruction to hundreds of homes. The Hurricance hit Houston, causing major flooding, and billions of dollars in damages.
The wine country fires destroyed thousands of homes and hundreds more businesses. The massive series of fires also took over 40 lives. 100,000 people were left displaced, with thousands of firefighters on the frontlines of the blaze. The fires went on for weeks, sending smoke across California which impacted even more people with countless lung infections.
Hurricane Maria is regarded as the worst natural disaster on record in Dominica, causing catastrophic damage to Puerto Rico. It is also the tenth-most intense Atlantic hurricane on record and the second Category 5 hurricane of 2017. The Hurricane completely wiped out all internet on the island, and devastated homes.
The American Red Cross helps assist with releif efforts for countless natural disasters around the country. This year there has been a spike in natural disasters including hurricanes, earthquakes, and fires devastating much of the United States. When these disasters take place, we suspected that the American Red Cross would be searched more often because American citizens, and people around around want to learn about the events to protect themselves, check on on loved ones, or donate some money to help those affected by the disaster.
